Jess Asato, the Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for Lowestoft, visited the National Fostering Agency today to gain insights into the critical work they do in supporting vulnerable children and foster families within the local community. This visit underscores Jess’s commitment to Labour’s mission of breaking down barriers to opportunity for all and advocating for local services that provide essential care to vulnerable children.
During the visit, Jess met with the service's directors, staff, and foster parents to discuss the challenges faced by foster carers and what support they would need from a Labour Government. The Lowestoft National Fostering Agency has been instrumental in providing a stable and nurturing environment for children who need it most, offering comprehensive support to foster families and working to ensure positive outcomes for children in care.Jess listened to the concerns of foster parents and staff, discussing issues such as funding, the vital role IFAs play in being part of the country’s core fostering service, and the need for more foster carers.
Jess emphasised the Labour Party’s dedication to addressing these challenges, promising to advocate for increased support for fostering services and greater recognition of the invaluable role they play. As part of the Labour Party's social care agenda, Jess reiterated Labour’s manifesto plans that every child should have a loving, secure home and that they will work with local government to support children in care, including through kinship, foster care, and adoption, as well as strengthening regulation of the children’s social care sector.Jess praised the fostering service for their dedication and hard work:
“The efforts of the Lowestoft National Fostering Agency are truly inspiring. They play a vital role in our community, offering love, stability, and hope to children who face difficult circumstances. I am committed to supporting policies that enhance the resources available to foster services and ensure that every child has the opportunity for a bright future.”
Harvey Gallagher, CEO of the Nationwide Association of Fostering Providers (NAFP), who visited with Jess said: “The hard work and dedication at this independent fostering agency (IFA) speaks to our mission of achieving the best outcomes for children in foster care which is why we want to see the next government create a dedicated Foster Care Strategy. We look forward to working with the next government to support our amazing foster carers.”
