The role of the Agency Decision Maker (ADM) is a vital role within any fostering agency as they hold the responsibility for deciding whether to approve a person to become and continue to be a foster carer, this requires a knowledge of the regulations and standards that apply, but also having a good working knowledge of the fostering agency in which they are a senior member. The ADM offers an invaluable role in supporting the fostering agency to adhere to the regulations, standards and their own policies and processes to ensure foster carers are supported to enable children have the best possible opportunities in their fostering family.

Explore what should be considered when making any decisions, including an understanding of the “Hofstetter Principles” 

Consider what should be in the written report including understanding of legislation, guidance and policy

Understanding more about Qualifying determinations

Consider effective communication within the fostering agency, the fostering panel and notifying of decision making as well as having an important quality assurance role within the fostering agency

We will have an opportunity to explore a few case examples through breakout discussions, this will include where there are changes of approval that has been led by challenges or change in the family home.
